What is an eight-way hand-tied spring system?
An eight-way hand-tied spring suspension uses individual coil springs tied to each other in eight directions by hand with a strong twine. This is the highest-quality sofa suspension available — used by Italian luxury manufacturers and SOISU. It provides individualised support, contours to body weight, and lasts decades without sagging. Lower-tier alternatives are sinusoidal springs (S-springs) — good for 7–10 years — and polyester webbing — common in cheap sofas, fails in 12–18 months. SOISU uses hand-tied springs on flagship lines and 8-gauge sinusoidal springs on selected entry pieces.
What kind of wood is used in the SOISU frame?
All SOISU sofa and bed frames use kiln-dried hardwood — primarily teak, sheesham and rubberwood — at 8–10% moisture content. Frames use screw-and-dowel joinery at stress-bearing points and reinforced corner blocks with steel L-brackets. No nails, no staples in load-bearing joints. Frames carry a 1-year structural warranty and SOISU's lifetime at-cost support beyond that.
How comfortable should a luxury sofa be?
Italian-engineered sofas are calibrated to two body postures: an active upright posture (back angled at 100–105°, seat depth 540–580mm) and a lounging posture (back angled at 115–120°, deeper seat). Both should feel firm-on-arrival and break in to medium-firm over 60 days. If the sofa is plush from day one, the foam is under-spec and will compress within 2–3 years. SOISU sofas start firm and stay firm — that is the design spec, not a manufacturing defect.
What is the SOISU recliner mechanism warranty?
Recliner mechanisms in SOISU power recliners (D2122, ZY2723 Milano, JN0002 Venezia, D2402 Roma, AW2402 Firenze, AW2310-D Maharaja Elite, AW2501 Amalfi) carry a 3-year parts warranty. The flagship Maharaja Elite uses German-engineered motor systems with a 5-year extended warranty. Beyond the warranty, SOISU services mechanisms at cost — motor swaps, switch replacements, USB-port servicing — at our Mumbai workshop.
How do I know a sofa is genuinely well-built?
Lift the corner — a well-built hardwood-frame sofa is heavier than it looks, with no twist or rattle. Sit on the front edge — the spring system should support evenly, not bow down. Look under the cushion — eight-way hand-tied or 8-gauge sinusoidal springs are the right answer, polyester webbing is not. Check the seam stitching — 10–12 stitches per inch is luxury-grade, 7–8 is industry standard. We invite you to test all of this in person at the Prabhadevi flagship.
