How to Choose the Right Sofa Size for an Indian Living Room

The single most common furniture mistake in Indian homes: buying a sofa that's the right style but the wrong size. Four measurements, two clearance rules, one decision.

By Rohan Shah

A sofa that's too large makes a living room feel like a waiting room. A sofa that's too small looks lost in the space and never feels quite right. In Indian apartments — where living rooms range from 120 to 280 sqft across 2BHK, 3BHK, 4BHK floor plans — getting this right is the single most important furniture decision you'll make.

The four measurements

  • The sofa wall — should be at least 1.5× the sofa length.
  • Walking gap — 90cm between sofa and coffee table.
  • TV gap — 60cm between coffee table and TV unit.
  • Lift / stair access — measure the tightest point on the delivery route.
