Fabric Ratings for Indian Conditions
Performance polyester (solution-dyed): best overall. Moisture-resistant, fade-resistant, 60,000+ Martindale. Suitable for all Indian cities. Cotton chenille: good. Breathable, durable, but absorbs moisture — condition with fabric protector in Mumbai and Chennai. Silk or silk blend: not recommended for high-use sofas — beautiful but fragile, impossible to clean without professional help, and not durable under Indian family use. Microfibre (suede-look polyester): good practical choice for families with children and pets. Repels spills well. Not heat-breathable. Velvet (polyester): appropriate for formal rooms and moderate use only. Shows every imprint and mark. Canvas or outdoor fabric: most durable fabric available, sometimes used in casual and resort-style homes. Can feel coarse; not typically appropriate for formal living rooms.
