Why Standard Recliners Are Wrong for Elderly Users
Standard European recliners are designed for a younger, taller sitter: seat height of 40–43 cm, deep seat at 90–100 cm, and manual recline handles requiring significant grip strength. For an Indian elderly user (typically 60–75 years old, average height 158–162 cm), a 40 cm seat height requires near-squat-level knee bend to sit, making rising very difficult with knee arthritis. A 90 cm seat depth leaves elderly users perching at the edge, losing the lumbar support benefit entirely. Manual recline handles require 8–12 kg of pull force — difficult with reduced hand strength. Every one of these specifications should be adapted for elderly Indian users.
