Full-grain leather performs well in Hyderabad's lower baseline humidity (45–60% outside monsoon) and is easier to maintain here than in Mumbai. High-resilience foam above 35 kg/m³ is still recommended given the summer heat. Teak and sheesham wood furniture fares well in Hyderabad's humidity range. The primary risk is UV fading — Hyderabad receives high solar radiation year-round, so furniture placed near south-facing windows without UV-filtering glass will fade significantly within 2–3 years.
Mumbai's furniture challenge is high year-round humidity and salt air. Hyderabad's challenge is UV intensity and summer heat. Full-grain leather, which can mildew in poorly-ventilated Mumbai rooms, performs very well in Hyderabad where lower relative humidity (45–60% non-monsoon) prevents moisture absorption. Fabric sofas require less anti-mildew treatment in Hyderabad but will fade faster near windows without UV glass.
Full-grain leather is the top choice — it handles Hyderabad's humidity cycles well and conditions easily. For fabric, choose solution-dyed materials where the colour is integrated into the fibre rather than surface-applied — these resist UV fading 3–4× better than standard fabric. For wood furniture, teak and sheesham are ideal. MDF and engineered wood furniture will delaminate in Hyderabad's monsoon months if not properly sealed.
Place sofas at least 60 cm from south and west-facing windows without UV glass. If you have large glass facades (common in Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, and Banjara Hills apartments), invest in UV-filtering window film — it costs ₹30–60 per sq ft and extends furniture life by 3–5 years. Air conditioning helps moderate summer heat that softens foam and loosens adhesive joints, but ensure the AC is not blowing directly onto leather furniture — direct cold air flow dries and cracks leather in 12–18 months.
